Leon Best may have been confined to start on the bench against Swansea City on Saturday but his cameo role as a substitute for Newcastle United looks set to hand him a recall for former club Coventry City’s visit to Tyneside this week.

The Ireland international helped Newcastle earn a vital point when setting up Andy Carroll for a late equaliser.

‘You always want substitutes to have an impact and Leon has done that,’ boss Chris Hughton told his club’s official website.

Patrick Van Aanholt meanwhile will also be available to Hughton for the game.

Chelsea will recall the Dutchman as cover for the injured Ashley Cole but only after his month’s loan is up.

“You have take into consideration what he is – he`s a 19-year-old player, and this is his first season (of first-team football),’ said Hughton, quoted in the Chronicle.

“He`s played quite a few games at Coventry earlier in the season, and he`s still a young, developing player.

“When you take that into consideration, he hasn`t let us down.’

Newcastle have suffered a poor week on the road following defeat at Derby but are a different proposition back on home turf.

The Magpies are unbeaten in the league at St James’ Park, winning 11 and drawing 4 of their 15 games.
