New Nottingham Forest manager Alex McLeish has said he was ‘very impressed’ with his first glimpse of striker David McGoldrick after the Coventry City loan star returned to the City Ground on Thursday.

McLeish will now decide whether the man who helped turn around the Sky Blues’ season will be able to dislodge the likes of Simon Cox, Billy Sharp and Dexter Blackstock from his side before deciding on McGoldrick’s future.

The Scot has a chance to look at some of his fringe players when Forest take on Oldham Athletic in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup on Saturday, McGoldrick being free to play having not featured for City against either Arlesey or Morecambe.

Franck Moussa, meanwhile, has signed an 18-month deal at the Ricoh Arena after becoming a key part of the City team during his short-term stay with the club.

He told the club’s official website: ‘The manager wanted me to sign and I was more than happy to do that and I’m happy now that it’s done.

‘I’m really enjoying my football at the moment and I feel like I’m in a good environment to improve and develop as a player.’

***Update*** McGoldrick has ended a ‘crazy 24 hours’ by signing for Ipswich Town on loan.
