The nervous courtship between Coventry City and Marlon King entered a new phase at the weekend with a first face-to-face meeting between the pair after weeks of correspondence via the press.

And first impressions were favourable judging by the comments of King’s agent, Tony Finnigan, in the Coventry Telegraph.

‘The guy wants to play some football and be part of something special and Coventry ticks all those boxes. I was really, really impressed. We kept saying in the box ‘look at this place – the stadium, the facilities, the crowd’.’

King and Co must have been the only people inside the Ricoh Arena or watching on TV who were impressed by the attendance but whether his agent’s comments are designed to smoke out some Premier League interest remains to be seen.

Elsewhere, 18-year-old Bolton wideman Danny Ward is being linked with a loan move to CV6.

7 goals in 24 games for Swindon Town last season marked Ward out as a potential loan signing for a number of clubs and Wanderers boss Owen Coyle has confirmed that a move is imminent.
