Nearly 5,000 Reasons To Be Cheerful!

Coventry City’s 3-2 win away to MK Dons on Saturday afternoon will have escaped the attentions of many outside supporters of the two clubs.

Those with a passing interest in League One will know that the Sky Blues are the division’s form side and that the victory pushes them into the play-off race after an excellent run of late.

But, closer to home, the result, the performance and the travelling support combined to allow everyone connected with the club to give themselves a pat on the back.

Chief Executive Tim Fisher issued a statement to the official website on Sunday night praising the fans, Mark Robins and the players while adding: ‘We will continue the work that has gone on so far this season and all efforts are being made to support Mark and his team in rebuilding the club after a torrid last decade – both on and off the field.’

For Mr Fisher the turnaround is a vindication of the decision made to part company with Andy Thorn and appoint Robins but also of the players that were invested in over the summer with only two of the starters on Saturday having been brought in by the new manager.

Robins himself will have seen once again that his ambitions as a manager can be satisfied by being with the Sky Blues, indeed they probably offer him his one and only shot at bossing in the Premier League with jobs at a premium for Englishmen in the top-flight.

His players will be loving the feeling that comes with being part of a winning side and will surely be striving harder than ever to taste some genuine success in 2013.

And for the supporters Saturday was a day to remember why we do it, week in and week out, despite the dismal nature of the last ten years. This wasn’t a day out at Arsenal in the League Cup or Spurs in the FA Cup. This was a reflection of genuine excitement in what this team can do in the next few months and the determination to play a part in roaring the team to victory.
