Momentum Builds For Sky Blues

Coventry City supporters are clearly enjoying having something to play (and not a relegation scrap) going in to the new year as momentum builds around the club for both the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and a potential push at the League One play-offs.

13,500 tickets have been sold as of Tuesday morning for the Area Final home leg against Crewe Alexandra while City’s allocation of briefs for the game at Gresty Road were snapped up within a few hours on Monday.

Meanwhile, back in League One, the Sky Blues are just one place outside the top six and level on points with 6th-placed MK Dons. City have played more games than anyone else in the top ten (aside from Tranmere in 1st and Walsall in 10th) but the two home wins last week have ensured that they remain in the hunt.

Of those teams battling it out with them, Brentford and Bournemouth are due to be in action on Tuesday night but Sheffield United’s game at Bury has been postponed.

71 (in 2010/11) and 73 points (in 2011/12) have been enough for a top six finish in the past two seasons and if City’s form over the last 17 games was replicated in the 17 they still have to play it would give them 75.

One man unlikely to play a part in what is to come is striker Cody McDonald as he nears a loan return to Gillingham.
