Towering striker Gary Madine spent time on loan at the Ricoh Arena earlier in the season but a permanent deal could not be agreed with Carlisle United and he now finds himself dropping into League Two for a month’s spell with Chesterfield.

The 19-year-old showed glimpses of his ability during nine substitute appearances for City and will now look for some regular first-team action at Saltergate.

Freddie Sears of course has joined up with Chris Coleman’s squad for his second loan spell of the season in the Championship.

He was originally due to spend the whole campaign with Crystal Palace but was recalled to West Ham in January.

New owners at Upton Park have enabled manager Gianfranco Zola to bring in strikers such as Mido during the transfer window making Sears surplus to requirements and with Palace’s financial problems a return to Selhurst Park was not on the cards.
