Lots Of Information But What Do We Know?

Back when the author of this piece began supporting the Sky Blues there were only a handful of ways of keeping up to date with news coming out of Highfield Road, especially in the summer months.

The local newspaper was, of course, one of these and the CET would be scanned every day after the end of the season for news of potential signings, players getting fit again after injury, pre-season friendlies and the launch of a new kit.

Pre-internet the local newspaper and radio stations were effectively the club’s main way of communicating with its supporters apart from the Clubcall premium rate phone service (can anyone recall the number for the Sky Blues – 0898 121166 rings a bell) which offered news and commentaries as well as tasty transfer gossip, often advertised on Ceefax.

Now we have the official club website and a raft of other internet sites with dedicated Sky Blues’ pages so we know more than ever what is happening at the club on a superficial level.

But, with football clubs now controlling the information for their own use and the fact that ownership of those clubs is not quite as easy to understand (to say the least for CCFC) we know less than before.
