Coventry City have been fielding a patched-up defence in recent weeks but are unlikely to land James McPake from Livingston any earlier than next summer.

Talks at the start of the month, aimed at bringing the highly-rated player to the Ricoh Arena earlier than planned after he signed a pre-contract deal, ended in stalemate and Livingston’s position has not changed.

‘There has been speculation James McPake could be leaving but he’ll be with us until the end of the season,’ said manager Paul Hegarty ahead of the game against Clyde at the weekend.

‘As far as I’m concerned that’s the end of the matter.

‘We need to concentrate on trying to string a run of wins together and keep moving in the right direction.’

Whether the Sky Blues will use some of the money generated by the sale of Jay Tabb to re-open talks or whether they decide they can wait, given the current mid-table position, remains to be seen with 13 days of the transfer window remaining.
