Living For The Weekend

The off-field headlines about Coventry City’s precarious finances and future were rarely alleviated last season by the arrival of the Sky Blues’ next fixture. On the contrary the regular diet of defeats and relegation from the Championsip only served to highlight the problems the club were facing.

This season the stories have not changed and, if anything, have actually become more and more bizarre (this week has seen the idea floated of a move to an abandoned stadium in Northamptonshire should the rent dispute not be resolved) but the weekends are becoming something to look forward to.

Hotels near Wembley?

While City are climbing slowly up the League One table and scoring goals in the process, supporters are also making plans for the trip to Tottenham and the JPT semi-final while also making a tentative date in the diary for a weekend at Wembley in early April.

What’s happening on the pitch has been the focus since Mark Robins’ arrival and the improving quality of the performances he is getting from his players has enabled fans to put to one side the ongoing off-field issues. For that reason alone the new manager deserves plenty of credit for putting some pride back into the club.

None of this is meant to denigrate Andy Thorn, who strived to put together a quality side (and may yet have done this season). Regardless of previous issues, SISU have run the football side of things in a businesslike manner this season and it is Robins who is reaping the benefit.
