Mark Robins urged his Coventry City side to ‘grind out’ a win against Oldham Athletic on Saturday afternoon and the Sky Blues did so in dramatic style on a day when many League One fixtures fell victim to the weather.

The hosts had the better of the chances and play but were frustrated by their struggling opponents until substitute Stephen Elliott broke the deadlock just after the hour mark.

Over 10,000 braved the freezing temperatures to urge their team on but a late Latics` goal looked to have stopped City moving level on points with the play-off places.

The Sky Blues are made of sterner stuff these days though and James Bailey netted an injury-time winner to make it a very good week for CCFC.

Robins paid tribute to his three substitutes after Elliott, Conor Thomas and Franck Moussa all made an impact but felt his side lost ‘shape, pace and discipline’ in the second half.
