Coventry City gained a vital and much-deserved three points on Saturday afternoon, beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the Ricoh Arena.
After a soporific first half-an-hour the Sky Blues gradually took control of the game against a visiting side who, despite fielding plenty of ‘name’ players, were desperately short of confidence, invention and passion.
Lukas Jutkiewicz’s excellent header won the game just seconds after Forest goalkeeper Lee Camp had made a superb save to keep the scores level.
Almost out on their feet by the end of the game, which saw 10 minutes of injury time after an injury to City goalkeeper Joe Murphy, the Sky Blues hung on to continue their solid home record both this season and under the stewardship of Andy Thorn.
The manager expressed his delight afterwards with all of his side, picking out Conor Thomas especially for his display. He also confirmed that both Thomas and Richard Wood left the field with cramp but should be fine for Tuesday night’s trip to Elland Road.
Opposite number Rob Kelly, in charge of Forest on a temporary basis before Steve Cotterill takes over on Monday, told his club’s official website: “Both teams were lacking confidence today and it probablt should have been a draw.
“We didn’t create the chances but they didn’t pepper our goal either.”
