City were worthy opponents for their Premiership visitors, twice pulling back the Magpies but losing to a Michael Owen goal midway through the first period of extra time.
With Elliot Ward hitting the bar from six yards out and Shay Given making a superb save from Morrison, City can take heart from a stirring performance before 19,249 and hopefully build on this effort for the up coming league games.
