It’s Goodbye Gary – And Thanks

Gary McSheffrey’s Coventry City career ended in rather disappointing fashion on Monday when the local boy agreed a deal with the club to terminate his contract.

Steven Jennings and Kevin Malaga also departed as the ‘bomb squad’ of players told they had no future with the Sky Blues was finally freed of its last members.

For McSheffrey it was a sad end to his second spell, one that promised much when he was re-signed by Aidy Boothroyd but delivered little as the club dropped into League One amid a host of off-field problems.

‘Memories’

The memories of his earlier games for his hometown team will survive, however.

McSheffrey making his debut as a teenager, looking certain to leave under Gary McAllister, reviving his career under Eric Black and Micky Adams and lighting up both the final months at Highfield Road and the first season at the Ricoh Arena.

Perhaps a move to join Boothroyd (and a host of ex-City players) at Northampton beckons? Whatever happens, Vital Coventry wishes Gary all the best for the future.
