Birmingham City have been flexing their financial muscle in the opening days of the transfer window and are closing in on the £3m+ signing of prolific Rangers striker Kris Boyd.

Blues, who travel to the Ricoh Arena to face Coventry City on 21 February, have also sealed a deal for highly-rated Chelsea winger Scott Sinclair, taking him to St Andrew’s on loan.

The Sky Blues meanwhile will come up against Cloughie on 31 January when they travel to Pride Park to face Derby County.

Nigel Clough has followed in the illustrious footsteps of his father Brian and accepted the challenge of managing the Rams.

Elsewhere, Charlton Athletic are being linked with former Coventry striker James Scowcroft, currently playing at their London rivals Crystal Palace.
