Home form holds the key for Coventry City

Seven games into the Championship season and Coventry City head into their game against Reading just one place above the relegation zone following the disappointing 3-0 reverse at the hands of Ipswich Town on Monday night.

With just one point taken from four away games to date it looks as though as the Sky Blues will need to continue their solid displays at home in order to achieve safety or better come the end of the campaign.
Three games at the Ricoh Arena have seen City take four points and concede just one goal, to Leicester on the opening day and with home fixtures coming up against Reading and Blackpool in the next few days that form needs to continue.

Two games in four days will test Andy Thorn’s young squad to the full with the manager admitting that loan signings are not currently on the horizon. To that end he will be pleased to have Gary Deegan and Clive Platt back to offer different options in midfield and up front respectively although Deegan is unlikely to face Reading this weekend.

Thorn spoke to the Coventry Telegraph about the Irishman and said: ‘We have missed someone with his type of game in the midfield to mix things up a little bit and run someone over in there.’

Reading manager Brian McDermott meanwhile watched the Sky Blues in action against Ipswich and felt that had City taken their chances then they could have made it a different game.
He told the official Royals website: ‘They have got players who can cause you all sorts of problems.’
