Coventry City missed out on the opportunity to move into the third automatic League Two promotion place on Boxing Day, a game of few chances at Vale Park decided by a late goal for the hosts to leave Mark Robins and the travelling support in frustrated mood afterwards.

Just seven points now separate Lincoln City in third place from Cambridge United in fourteenth and it looks like the division’s top two, Luton Town and Notts County, are preparing to kick away from the field now that the halfway mark has been passed.

Both sides were certainly in impressive form on Boxing Day, Luton winning 5-0 away at Swindon and Notts rewarding their fans who made the trip to Morecambe with a 4-1 victory.

Momentum appears to be with both the Hatters and the Magpies and both will know that a good run of form over the next six weeks will make it very difficult for them to be stopped at the top of the table.

For the Sky Blues, who have beaten both of these sides 3-0 already this season, that consistent run remains elusive.
