West Ham United manager has said he had to think long and hard before letting Elliott Ward join Coventry City.
The central defender made a £1m switch to the Ricoh Arena recently and Pardew told the Newham Recorder: ‘I love Elliott to bits and I think he is a very good player, but I just couldn’t see him getting a fair share of games next season.
‘When you look at the centre backs we have at the club as well as the one I’ve just signed, I think we have enough cover in that area.
‘But we all owe a lot to Elliott for the part he played in our promotion and I still think that he can get better and better and become a good Premiership player in the future.’
