David McNamee and Gary Borrowdale are desparately trying to convince Coventry City manager Chris Coleman of their worth during pre-season.

Cultured right-back McNamee is aiming to show he can stay injury-free before being offered a new deal while Borrowdale, a disappointment last season after his move from Crystal Palace, knows Danny Fox is ahead of him at left-back and that Marcus Hall is staying at the club.

“I have pulled Gary and for me he needs to be fitter,’ warned Coleman, quoted in the Coventry Telegraph.

“He is just coming back from an injury but he is working hard and he has got a lot to offer because he has got a good left foot.

“We will see how he is when he gets back fit because obviously if he was to leave no one is going to sign an injured player.’

***Update***McNamee has failed to convince Coleman of his fitness and is now looking for a new club.

A case of what might have been for a player who had undoubted quality but was prevented by injury from ever becoming a mainstay in the side.
