Frustrating season for Burnley boss

Steve Cotterill sends his Burnley side out for their final game of the season against Coventry City on Sunday feeling that he has been treading water during the campaign.

Burnley were flying high early on in the season but the pressures of having a small squad caught up with them and a long run of games without a win sparked relegation fears.

They have now been banished by a fine run of form in contrast with the Sky Blues who travel to Turf Moor at the weekend.

‘Certainly, what I’ve done, personally, is tread water for another year,’ said Cotterill.

‘I’ve got another year older, not added another promotion to those I’ve had, not added another Wembley or Millennium Stadium appearance, so, for me, sometimes when I look back, it might have been another year where we haven’t quite achieved anything.

‘I think this year has been one I won’t ever forget, how we started – we always knew it would be tough to stay up there, irrespective or injuries or suspensions, but when they kick in with us, we struggle.

‘We do that every year, not having that strength in depth of replacing your key players that make other players play.

‘I don’t know if that will change, I don’t know the answer to that yet.’
