Coventry City play their first pre-season friendly of the summer on Saturday with the now traditional trip to face Nuneaton Town but the expected hot weather and the return to action is unlikely to make the atmosphere among visiting fans any less fractious after yet another incredible week in the Sky Blue soap opera.

Away games will act as a focal point for protests against the Northampton groundshare and all of the other decisions taken over the years that have left the club almost without any kind of identity and certainly nothing to tie it to the city where it was founded.

It is not as if what is happening on the pitch will deflect attention, if anything it will magnify it as Steven Pressley attempts to cobble together a side without having been able to make new signings.

The manager has been nothing but optimistic in his thoughts on the new season but he will know that he faces a herculean task to keep the Sky Blues competitive. Pressley cites Sir Alex Ferguson as an inspiration and all of his fellow Scot’s ability to fashion an ‘us against them’ mentality will be needed.
