Dominant Sky Blues Off The Bottom

Coventry City put in a dominant display against Colchester United on Sunday to wipe out their points deduction and move off the foot of the League One table.

Steven Pressley`s men showed attacking intent throughout the game with the injury and suspension-hit U`s unable to cope with the various ways that the Sky Blues had at their disposal to create chances.

Leon Clarke and Callum Wilson combined well throughout, the former showing his frustration at not getting on the scoresheet despite a host of opportunities and the latter making a few more of the managers (and directors of football such as Peterborough`s Barry Fry) in attendance at Sixfields sit up and take notice with another two goals.

Blair Adams and Cyrus Christie were more wingers than full-backs while John Fleck (who ran much of the game) and Conor Thomas won the midfield battle, allowing Carl Baker and Franck Moussa space to attack the Colchester rearguard.

The visitors were never given a moment`s respite, even when attacking as Baker and Moussa occupied wide, attacking positions when the U`s won corners.

A positive day on the field again matched by contrasts off it with a crowd of 1,789 in attendance and a peaceful protest on the hill overlooking the stadium.

Reaction: Perhaps the best man to describe Coventry’s display is the opposition manager and Joe Dunne, who cut a frustrated figure throughout on the touchline, had the following to say:

“I know when I’m beaten and Coventry were magnificent.

“They were better than us, in moving the ball, passing the ball. We tried to get a passing game going in the first half and they pressured us.”
