Do City need to be loan arrangers?

Coventry City’s transfer dealings since the start of the season have been minimal, hindered of course by the embargo that was in place for the latter part of last year.

All around them in the Championship however, clubs are making use of the loan market to boost promotion or play-off hopes or help to avoid the drop.

Sheffield Wednesday for instance are set to seal a deal for striker Craig Beattie from West Brom, to join Chelsea starlet Ben Sahar and Sunderland midfielder Graham Kavanagh at Hillsborough.

New Southampton boss Nigel Pearson moved quickly after his appointment last week to snap up Ian Pearce from Fulham while loan players have also given definite boosts to the likes of Barnsley and QPR.

While the Sky Bues are going down the right road with a focus on younger players, the current squad looks stale, especially in midfield and up front, the purchases of Scott Dann and Dan Fox having freshened up the defence.

We have been down the road of too many loan signings in the past but one or two choice captures could provide the spark that is needed to finally end thoughts of relegation.

***Update*** Quoted on Thursday, manager Chris Coleman has said: “We do have the opportunity to bring people in and I would like to because I want to add a bit of balance to the squad as we have a lot of left-sided players, which is very unusual.”
