Coventry City went down to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, failing to build on their encouraging League Cup victory against Birmingham in midweek.

Clayton’s 24th minute goal was the difference between the two sides as Richard Shaw failed to inspire a first league win of the season for the Sky Blues.

Home boss Steve Davis was a happy man as his men bounced back from a mauling at Brentford last weekend.

“It was a fantastic result and we worked very hard for it.

“We created some good opportunities and played well as a team. We were very solid and picked up the second ball, all the things we talked about beforehand and that was the difference.”
