Amid the talk of missed chances at the Ricoh Arena, credit is due to Coventry City’s young defence who kept their sixth league clean sheet in succession at home on Saturday.

The record stretches back to the 4-0 win over Barnsley and it is no coincidence that it coincides with the signings of Scott Dann and Daniel Fox from Walsall (in between the league games of course City were tonked 5-0 by West Brom in a cup game where both new players were ineligible).

‘Scott has played superbly well,’ Fox told The Telegraph of his former and current team-mate.

‘He is a good talker and leader and very dominant in the air, as he showed against Dion Dublin against Norwich and James Beattie at Sheffield, who never got a sniff.

‘So hopefully he will carry that on and the back four will keep doing well.’

The signing of a new right-back or an injury-free David McNamee would add to a solid back line. Although Isaac Osbourne deserves his share of the credit for the recent good form he remains a midfielder filling in and is due a return to his natural position.
