Coventry City will be without the services of midfielder Gary Deegan for the opening months of the season after the 22-year-old suffered a stress fracture of the ankle.

Boss Aidy Boothroyd has confirmed that the combative Deegan will be out for ‘between three and four months’but may have a ready-made replacement in Michael Doyle.

Back at the Ricoh Arena for the final year of his Sky Blues contract and unlikely now to join Leeds on a permanent basis, Doyle may now add to his 278 City appearances, certainly in the first-half of the season as Deegan recovers from injury.
