6 Championship fixtures in the space of 21 days is the schedule facing Coventry City as they approach what promises to be a crucial period of the season amid rumours that Andy Thorn is thinking of quitting as manager, something that has been strenuously denied by both him and the club.

Far from allowing Thorn the luxury of getting back his injured players, the international break appears to have reduced rather than added to the manager’s options for the first of those games, Saturday’s home fixture against Nottingham Forest.

Thorn’s relentless optimism and his side’s home performances this season to date have been the only rays of light for City fans so far. Despite claims made on his behalf however the manager himself would surely welcome any signings that are offered to him at this stage.

City’s lack of loan deals contrasts with some ambitious signings being made by those clubs around them in the league table as the likes of Doncaster Rovers and Watford snap up some experienced players to add to their options over the next few weeks.

Off the field the chopping and changing of personnel continues apace, stories that would warrant the odd paragraph inside the back page of the Telegraph suddenly becoming much bigger news because of the turmoil that the club is in.
