The final transfer talk of the summer, with the new season starting next weekend, actually starts on a rare positive note.

Monday saw the Sky Blues complete their first signing of the close season, making Sammy Clingan a City player after he completed his move from relegated Norwich.

By the end of the week however the mood around the club had clearly shifted.

Seeing his already thin squad hit further by injury and illness, Chris Coleman dropped his positive persona and described the situation as ‘desperate’.

No longer are new signings ‘imminent’ and it now seems a case of if rather than when for much-needed additions to a squad that finished last season in the bottom half of the Championship and has already lost two key performers this summers.

Internet rumours meanwhile have seen Leon Best linked with a move away, to either Hull City or Celtic depending on who you believe.
