This weekend’s Sunday Mercury newspaper suggests that Gary McSheffrey will end up back at the Ricoh Arena in January after falling down the pecking order at Birmingham City.

The ex-Sky Blues favourite is fit again after injury but behind the likes of James McFadden and Cameron Jerome in the mind of Blues boss Alex McLeish.

Kevin Kyle meanwhile, in a lengthy interview with the Northern Echo, has said that he wants to stay in the Championship when his loan spell with Hartlepool ends.

“I have my best years to come,’ claimed the Scot.

‘It is all about trying to do well and getting games.

‘If I don`t get a Championship team in January then I will wait until the summer, when my contract is up.

“I might have to go out on loan again in January.

‘If nothing happens come June and July, and Hartlepool are one of the few teams to offer me a contract, then that is something I would not rule out.’

One player certain to be at the Ricoh Arena next season is James McPake.

The Livingston skipper signed a pre-contract deal with the Sky Blues last week.

He was denied the chance of weekend fixture to celebrate however when the home clash with Dundee was frozen off.
