Coventry City are set to use the loan system both to strengthen their existing squad and give their returning players some much-needed match fitness over the next few weeks.

Ruling out a move for former favourites Gary McSheffrey and Jay Tabb, manager Chris Coleman has said that he will be looking to add a couple of experienced players to the ranks to tide the Sky Blues over until January.

Injuries continue to bite at the Ricoh Arena with Sammy Clingan the latest victim and a small, youthful squad will be tested to the full when the international break is over when in one week alone City take on Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff away and entertain West Brom at home.

Two players who should come into contention in the new year, James McPake and David Bell meanwhile, could spend time on loan away from the club in order to speed up their return from injury.
