New signing Herman Hreidarsson has vowed to give everything for the cause after joining the Sky Blues’ relegation fight earlier this week.
Set for an immediate debut against Middlesbrough on Saturday the veteran Icelander told the official club website: ‘I have been impressed with the standard of the squad and there is good energy in the side.’
The arrival of Hreidarsson and striker Alex Nimely has pleased boss Andy Thorn who believes they will bring increased competition for places at a crucial stage of the season.
That competition has also been increased by the return of Freddy Eastwood from his exile, imposed after Thorn made it clear the striker had not been fit enough.
‘When I have been fit I have felt quite good but I have also been injured on and off during that time,’ Eastwood told the Coventry Telegraph.
‘But if the manager says I am not fit enough then I am not fit enough. It’s as simple as that.
‘There’s definitely no problem between me and the manager. He’s told me a few home truths, that I am a little bit overweight and not quite fit enough.
‘I need to look at that myself because I am old enough and professional enough to address that because it is not his fault that I’ve put a bit of weight on.’
Two of City’s former managers have taken on high-profile roles, Chris Coleman becoming the new Wales boss and Eric Black appointed as number two to Coleman’s old Ricoh Arena assistant Steve Kean at Blackburn.
The youth cup dreams of the Sky Blues’ youngsters meanwhile ended at Ewood Park on Tuesday night.
