Coventry City again proved themselves more than a match for one of the Championship’s top teams on Tuesday night when they took on Cardiff City at the Ricoh Arena.

A tight first-half of few chances saw the Sky Blues have slightly the better of things, Clive Platt causing problems for the visiting defence.

City supporters feared the worst however when Peter Whittingham netted for Cardiff just minutes after the restart but the home side refused to cave in and were rewarded with a Lukas Jutkiewicz equaliser.

Whether it will be a parting gift from the striker, linked with a deadline loan move to Southampton, remains to be seen but Andy Thorn did not sound too confident of keeping the striker when interviewed after the game, saying: “I don’t know what’s going to happen, whatever happens I’ll have to deal with.

“Managers now, I think across the game, don’t dictate who goes in and out of clubs. They can have their opinion but it doesn’t matter.”

In the big scheme of things a point will not be enough come the end of the season but in itself this constitutes a decent result for Andy Thorn’s side.

City must now start to reverse their poor away form in order to have any chance of climbing out of the relegation zone, starting at Brighton this weekend.
