Clinton Morrison gave the Sky Blues the lead in Tuesday night’s battle of the play-off chasers but City were pegged back quickly by Chris Burke’s strike.

Both sides pressed for a winner after the break with Carl Baker looking like the man most likely to for the home side.

The game was decided however by the assistant referee’s flag when he decided that a City defender had handled in the box in injury time.

Peter Whittingham despatched the spot-kick to cement the Bluebirds’ play-off position and break Sky Blue hearts, dropping them down to 10th in the Championship.

Reaction to follow on Vital Coventry.
