A scrappy second-half display from Coventry City drew the ire of the Ricoh Arena crowd as they conceded first to 10-man Blackpool before scrambling a draw with an own goal, following good work by bright spot Carl Baker.

‘I thought Blackpool were the better team in the second half,’ admitted Chris Coleman afterwards.

‘You often see that with 10 men so it feels like a point gained to have scored so late.’

City are up to 14th in the Championship and Coleman added: ‘The main thing is to keep picking up points as the table is very tight at the moment so we need to keep going.’

Altogether an unsatisfactory kind of day for City despite a draw against a bright and confident Blackpool.

The manager’s 4-5-1 formation came in for stick after the break but in the opening 45 minutes he was right to highlight excellent chances for McIndoe and Best and also a good header from Baker which flashed just wide.

His explanation of tiredness for the second-half showing didn’t quite ring true given that the visitors had ten men but the home crowd seemed ultra-quick to jump on the negatives and the atmosphere before the equalising goal would have done nothing to boost confidence.

Commenting on the boos which rang out when Leon Best was substituted, Coleman defended the player, saying he hoped the jeers were for his decision rather than Best’s display.

The striker certainly wasn’t helped by the formation although he linked well with Baker in the opening 45 minutes while Bell and McIndoe again were sadly ineffective.
