Andy Thorn will run the rule over Coventry City captain Sammy Clingan in a reserve team fixture against Chesterfield on Tuesday before bringing him back into the first-team fold at Derby this weekend.

A broken toe has kept Clingan out of action for over a month and although the Sky Blues won a couple of games in that time there is no doubt his influence has been missed, especially in the FA Cup tie with Southampton when the home side dominated for an hour before fading away badly.

Jordan Clarke and Freddy Eastwood are also set to feature while Lukas Jutkiewicz is likely to be fit for the trip to Pride Park.

The Rams have won four games in a row at a busy time of year and top scorer Theo Robinson told the Derby Telegraph: “Hopefully, we’ll be able to rest and recuperate this week.

“We’ll be looking to keep the run going.”

Update

Clingan played for 60 minutes in a 3-2 win most notable for Freddy Eastwood’s two goals. Could the forgotten man of the Ricoh Arena get a dramatic recall to the first team squad this weekend?
