Leon Clarke’s career is set to come full circle with a move to re-join hometown club Wolverhampton Wanderers set to be completed ahead of the transfer deadline.

After two rejected bids, agreement was reached between Wolves and Coventry City on Wednesday for the 28-year-old, the Sky Blues leading goalscorer this season.

After enjoying the most consistent year of his footballing life, Clarke has been in demand since the summer but, with his ‘unhappiness’ at City refusing to do a deal with Wolves having been leaked to the press in the wake of the Arsenal game, his manner of leaving has irked manager Steven Pressley.

‘It looks more likely that he’ll leave – he gets his wish,’ said Pressley after Tuesday night’s defeat at Leyton Orient.

‘I’m annoyed because I’ve got a group of players who are working so hard for this football club and they`ve been let down that’s why I’m angry.

‘Of course that’s football but this club helped him get to where he is. I understand that sometimes players leave, but there`s a way to leave.’
