Coventry City will play a key role on the final day of the Championship season despite their own relegation being confirmed by last Saturday’s results.

Andy Thorn must somehow keep his squad’s spirit intact for one more game as the Sky Blues travel to Southampton carrying the hopes not of their own supporters, unfortunately, but those of West Ham United who need City to take at least a point from their hosts to have a chance of finishing in second place.

‘We are asking Coventry to do us a massive favour,’ Hammers midfielder Kevin Nolan told BBC Radio London.

‘It’s going to be tough on Southampton.

‘Hopefully when they put that shirt on on Saturday it’ll be a little bit heavier as there are expectations on them to win the game.’

Although West Ham are looking to put pressure on Southampton it is hard to see anything other than a home win. The Sky Blues looked demoralised in defeat against Doncaster and, now that relegation has been rubberstamped, they have little to play for except their own pride.
