Coventry City will continue their positive early movement in the transfer market on Thursday with the signing of Stephen O’Halloran from Aston Villa.

Described by manager Aidy Boothroyd as an ‘attacking full-back’, the 22-year-old Irishman has struggled for first team chances so far in his career due to injury problems, notably when suffering a second cruciate ligament tear while on loan at Swansea.

‘It is a devasting blow for Stephen and the club,’ said Swansea physio Richie Evans in December 2008.

‘It is surprising that he has torn the same ligament because when it is initially repaired it rarely tears again.

‘He had the full rehab at Villa when it happened the first time and his left knee was actually stronger than his right.’

O’Halloran will battle Chris Hussey for the left-back slot next season.
