The Wembley dream may be over for Coventry City in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy but a place in the League One play-offs is firmly up for grabs between now and the end of the season and interim manager Lee Carsley sees no reason why his side cannot grasp their opportunity.
The Sky Blues came within a whisker of turning around a three-goal deficit at Crewe on Wednesday night as they turned in yet another controlled away performance, laced with attacking threat.
‘We had a game plan and we came here and executed it well,’ Carsley told BBC CWR after the game.
‘Ideally we wanted to ‘win’ the first half. If we’d gone in two ahead at half-time, it really would have been game on.’
This Saturday brings a return to the Ricoh Arena and familiar opponents as City and Crewe meet for a third time in the space of a few weeks.

The Alex may be celebrating their trip to Wembley but over the course of 180 minutes the Sky Blues created chance after chance against them and will be disappointed not to gain a measure of revenge at the weekend.
‘Why can’t we win every game between now and the end of the season?’ added Carsley.
‘The players are good enough and they want it enough. The proof will be in the pudding.’
After Crewe, City face the current top two in the shape of Bournemouth and Swindon. The current nature of the League One table means their season could effectively be over by the time those games have finished or they could even be sitting in an automatic promotion spot.
