After the dramatic end to their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Preston on Thursday, Coventry City suffered a second successive 1-0 loss in League One when a quickfire Carlisle goal was enough to give the hosts all three points at Brunton Park on Sunday.

Although the Sky Blues created a host of chances there were no excuses afterwards from manager Mark Robins.

He told the official club website: ‘You have to play with more thought than we did…We didn’t do the right things often enough.’

A disappointing day, especially for the 500+ travelling fans, but it is only a second league defeat in ten for City and they remain within reach of the play-offs. Home games against Tranmere and Oldham are next up and confidence remains high among players and supporters.

Midweek opponents Tranmere continue to defy the pre-season odds by maintaining their push for automatic promotion. Ronnie Moore’s side were 2-0 winners against Crawley at the weekend after which the Prenton Park boss said: “People are going to sit up and take notice that the bubble hasn’t burst and we keep going.”
