After two fine away wins this week and leading by a 41st minute goal from Gary McSheffrey, his first of the season, City allowed Pompey back into the game in the second half and conceded the equaliser on 90 minutes.

After creating a number of first half chances the Sky Blues will rue not taking them after Pompey came back strongly and levelled through McLeod.

11,295 watched the action at the Ricoh Arena and saw a result that leaves Mark Robins’ side in 15th place in League One.

The City boss was happy with his side’s performance and felt they were wrongly denied a clinching goal through David McGoldrick with just minutes remaining.

“The goal that we scored and had chalked off, there is no way on this planet that it was offside,” he said.

“I have looked at it twice, but I didn’t need to.

“McGoldrick is two yards onside, it’s hit the post he’s controlled it and put it in the net but it’s been disallowed.

“I’m really disappointed with that because we have done enough to win it. I was disappointed not to get the three points because we were almost there.”
