Having earmarked Clive Platt down for a deadline day loan move to Norwich City, the local press reported later on Wednesday that the striker would be staying to fight a relegation battle rather than helping with a promotion push.

‘He’s going nowhere,’ caretaker boss Andy Thorn told the Coventry Telegraph.

‘We are absolutely down to the bare bones and cannot afford to let anyone out at this stage of the season.’

Thorn will be without Richard Wood for the next six weeks due to injury but despite his bullish statement about Platt, cannot be 100% certain there will be no departures given what the Telegraph has described as a ‘growing financial crisis’ at the Ricoh Arena.

The caretaker manager has made a positive impression since taking charge despite failing to end the club’s winless run and he has been backed by Michael McIndoe who feels City’s players have been given more freedom to express themselves in the last couple of games.

That still needs to be translated into wins on the pitch however and despite McIndoe’s claims that it was ‘very stange’ to be frozen out under Aidy Boothroyd, the former boss was hardly being bombarded with calls to bring the winger back into his side.

As with his teammates, the Scot must now give everything to the battle to beat the drop and perhaps even saving the club from the financial abyss.
