Goalkeeper Joe Murphy and Chris Dunn have become Coventry City’s first signings of the summer after both joining the Sky Blues on Thursday.

Murphy, a free agent after the expiry of his Scunthorpe contract, will be expected to succeed fellow Irish international Keiren Westwood as number one at the Ricoh Arena but, unlike Westwood, will have strong competition from highly-rated 23-year-old Dunn.

He is also out of contract but compensation is due to Northampton Town for the player due to his age.

Boss Andy Thorn said of Dunn: ‘I know for a fact a Premier League club was interested in him but we have managed to get it done quickly.’

The duo become Thorn’s first signings since taking over as manager although he is likely to have been tracking both players for some time in his previous role as chief scout.

Having secured healthy competition for the goalkeeping slots, expect the boss to do the same for other areas of his squad as City head off to Portugal to begin their pre-season preparations.
