Birmingham City’s trip to the Ricoh Arena to face Coventry City at the end of October is the last of three games that manager Steve Bruce has reportedly been given to save his job at St Andrew’s.

A run of games without a win has cranked up the pressure on Bruce, who held talks with Blues supremo’s David Sullivan and David Gold after Tuesday’s defeat by Norwich.

‘The manager always seems to get the stick and it is harsh at times,’ said ex-Sky Blues star Gary McSheffrey.

‘The manager picks 11 players and it`s down to the players to do the job and we didn`t do a job for him, the fans or the club on Tuesday. We take responsibility.

‘In my opinion it is not fair for people to call for Steve Bruce to go. He bought me to the club and he has been nothing but good for me. If he was to go now, it would be a disaster.’
