Chelsea face Coventry City on Saturday and then Juventus on Tuesday, two games which will go a long way to determining the success or otherwise of their season.

Two stars returning from injury played for the reserves this week, while another could also feature at the Ricoh Arena.

“I have seen Michael Essien and Ricardo Carvalho play at Villa Park,” manager Guus Hiddink told the club`s website.

“Essien played a full game, he got some good contacts, some tackling which is giving him a lot of confidence when he is not having problems after.

“And Ricardo played as planned, 60 minutes. He has to get a little more confidence because this injury is difficult because with the hamstring, if you start one or two days too early it gives you another setback.

“So we will see how he has reacted to this game.”

Speaking about striker Nicolas Anelka, Hiddink added: “We`ll try to get him back for this weekend and hopefully for Juventus he will be ready there. But it might be tight.’
