Charlton Athletic entertain Coventry City on Tuesday after dropping to the bottom of the Championship table with Saturday’s defeat at Blackpool.
Caretaker manager Phil Parkinson admitted his side were second best at Bloomfield Road but has urged the Addicks to come back stronger.
‘We’ve got an honest bunch of players here and we have to roll our sleeves up on Tuesday night and come out ready to put on a similar performance to our last home game against Southampton,’ he said.
‘We’ll make sure we keep fighting.’
Goalkeeper Nicky Weaver is a doubt for the game against a Coventry side who are still likely to be patched up due to injury problems of their own.
Last seasons’s game ended in a 4-1 win for Charlton and left Sky Blues’ fans ignoring what was happening on the Valley pitch in favour of updates from the Leicester game.
“The last time we went down there it was a disappointing day all round and it got to the stage where we were thinking the game was out of reach and you start to think about other results,” assistant manager Steve Kean told the Coventry Telegraph.
“Without doubt that was one of the worst games I have been involved with. We set out a game plan and as the goals went in things were slipping away and we are getting deeper as they were getting on the ball and coming at us.
“It was a horrible feeling and one that we don`t want to have down at the Valley again, that`s for sure. This time we have to make sure we are on the front foot taking the game to them, and grabbing it by the scruff of the neck.”
Clinton Morrison is unlikely to get a warm reception from the home fans given his Crystal Palace connections but is in good form at present and can be backed at 8/1 to score the first goal.
