Elliott Ward is approaching the final year of his Coventry City contract and knows he will have to work hard to convince Chris Coleman to offer a new deal.

Hailed as a big signing when joining from West Ham United in the summer of 2006, Ward has made over 100 league appearances for the Sky Blues but has not been a first choice for Coleman since the turn of the year.

With Ben Turner now firmly established alongside Scott Dann and James McPake signed from Livingston, Ward must bide his time.

‘I haven’t been out of the squad,’ he told the Coventry Telegraph this week.

‘I have been sub, so that’s a good sign.

‘I will be back for pre-season and working hard and fighting for my place.’
