Coventry City manager Steven Pressley turned in an impressive performance in front of an appreciative audience at a fans’ forum on Thursday night.

The Scot continues to perform a balancing act between his employers and his own views as a football man of many years’ standing, making it clear that his preference would be for the Sky Blues to be playing at the Ricoh Arena and not in front of small crowds at Sixfields.

Nobody could accuse Pressley simply of being a mouthpiece for the club’s owners although he does of course have a responsibility to them as the people who appointed him to the job. In fact it is the one decision that the club hierarchy have made that few people could argue with.

In appointing Pressley, City have a manager with a genuine desire to make young players the heart of his side while also playing attractive football. The Sky Blues can be the club to satisfy many of his ambitions if the off-field issues are resolved at least partly.

Coventry City Ladies, meanwhile, will be playing at the Ricoh this season as they continue with a long-term aim of playing in the Women’s Super League.
