Coventry City have (perhaps temporarily) lost the services of Jack Cork, with the midfielder being recalled by Chelsea for potential service at Stamford Bridge in the second half of the season but another midfielder could be in the squad by the time Barnsley come to town on Saturday.

To add to the capture of combative Irishman Gary Deegan, Stockport County’s star performer in an otherwise dismal League One season, Carl Baker, is reportedly on the verge of a move to the Ricoh Arena.

Playing in a struggling side, 27-year-old Baker, signed from Morecambe in 2008, has netted 13 times this season.

With Cork, Aron Gunnarsson and Michael McIndoe all drawing a blank so far, City have struggled for goals from the centre of the park, especially in the absence of Sammy Clingan who has netted three times.

Although Baker has been playing at a lower level he, like Keiren Westwood, Scott Dann and Daniel Fox before him, will be chomping at the bit to make his mark in the Championship after working his way through non-league football to get his chance in the paid ranks.
