New Sunderland boss (and head of the consortium buying the Wearside club) Niall Quinn is busy trying to draft in new signings ahead of Sunday’s Championship opener against the Sky Blues at the Ricoh Arena.

The likes of Gary Breen, Kelvin Davis and Julio Arca have left the Stadium of Light this summer, with Kenny Cunningham the only new face at present.

Quinn though is close to tying up a deal for West Ham full-back Clive Clarke before the weekend and has been linked with a number of other players.

The likes of Kevin Phillips and Andy Reid are all thought to be Black Cats’ targets although they are unlikely to be on board in time for the game against Coventry.
