The faltering nature of Coventry City’s League Two promotion challenge has much to do with a series of disappointing defeats away from home, losses at Morecambe, Forest Green Rovers and Yeovil springing to mind.

But as the Sky Blues prepare to travel to Mansfield on Saturday afternoon they may want to replay the DVD’s of their trips to Luton Town and Lincoln City earlier in the campaign, both of which ended in away victories for Mark Robins’ men.

The performance in the 3-0 win at Luton in particular came straight out of the textbook of how to defend well and break quickly on the road.

A similar display will be needed as the Stags are the form team in the division and are peaking at just the right time for promotion specialist Steve Evans.

The Scot divides opinion in the game sharply but his ability to get a team out of their current league has few equals and he has seen Mansfield defeat promotion rivals Newport County and Exeter City in their last two matches.

A number of fringe players were given a run out in a midweek reserve team fixture to add to the options available to Evans.

But Mark Robins will have been buoyed by the performance of his side in defeat at Brighton last weekend, the subsequent lack of a midweek game and the plaudits earned by striker Jonson Clarke-Harris for his 90 minutes agains the Premier League Seagulls.
